Table of normal hCG values during the first month of pregnancy

The values of beta hCG in early pregnancy  are indicative of the health of the corium or the future placenta. The hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin hormone) is sintetized in the corium and then, passes into mother blood. Doctors take a sample of blood and measure its concentration per milliliter of blood. Doctors know that,  for each week of pregnancy, there must be certain levels of hCG in the blood, indicating that the placenta is properly developing.

Given the results of a pregnancy test blood, many women wonder how high or low it is its value or if this is normal.
This table indicates for each day of pregnancy, the minimum beta hCG value, the median value and the maximum of hCG found in a certain number of viable pregnancies (right column).

All values were entered into the database by pregnant women who confirmed their pregnancies by ultrasound and fetal heartbeat (indicator of fetal viability) was also detected.

All values are expressed in mIU / ml
* If you do not know your ovulation day, you can get about subtracting 14 days to the days that have passed since the first day of your last period.

Therefore, if your hCG beta value is between the minimum and the maximum value of hCG listed in the table for a given day, probably all goes well.

At 3500  mIU / ml and you should see the gestational sac if you do an ultrasound. With 17,700 mIU / ml you will see the yolk sac and from 47,700 mIU / ml, you can see the embryo.

However, remember that what matters is not a single value of beta hCG at a given moment, but the doubling time or the rate of increase in the concentration of the hormone between two consecutive measurements.

Doctors take as a criterion the  hCG
doubling time, which is the time it takes to double the hormone concentration in maternal blood. The first days of pregnancy, that time is very short, 48 hours or less and then it gets slower and slower until week 7th or 9th of pregnancy.

For the doubling time of your beta hCG,

  • first you should get two tests your beta hCG  on different days, but at the same clinic (the latter is important, because sometimes, clinics use different methods and the results are not comparable).
  • Second you need to have a tool like the calculator on our website:  doubling time calculator for beta hCG .
  • third, place in the calculator, the two values of hCG and the time elapsed times between the two tests.
  • Fourth, the calculator will give you a figure in hours, which corresponds to your doubling time
  • Fifth, you should compare your value to the table doubling times of beta hCG during pregnancy . This reference is what really matters. If your replication value is above the maximum reported in the table, something goes wrong and if it is faster than the median values, then, Congratulations !!
